Clinical Mental Health Intern

"I am honored and eager to help individuals navigating difficult emotions, major life adjustments, or daily stressors. I deeply believe that caring for our mental health is the most valuable investment we can make in ourselves. "

Elaine:

As an LMHC intern, I am pursuing NYS licensing through an accredited university counseling program. My counseling populations include adolescent through late adult seniors who struggle with a variety of challenges that may arise across the lifespan.

Are you navigating feelings of anxiety, self-doubt, or stress from difficult life transitions?

Taking the step to seek counseling requires immense courage, and I am here to offer a warm, safe, and collaborative space where you can speak openly without fear of judgment.  As a counseling intern, I bring a fresh, modern perspective combined with deep empathy and a commitment to helping you build resilience.

My approach is highly collaborative, drawing from a blend of evidence-based practices to match your unique experiences.  I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you manage daily stressors, alongside psychodynamic therapy, and narrative therapy to explore deeper behavioral patterns, uncover your personal story, and externalize external stressors. I also integrate trauma-focused therapy, mindfulness techniques, and psycho-education to help you gently process painful experiences at a pace that feels secure and comfortable for you.

Whether you are coping with childhood trauma, managing chronic pain, navigating interpersonal conflict, or working through feelings of failure, we will work together to uncover your innate strengths and establish meaningful goals. I am currently accepting new clients and look forward to walking alongside you on your path toward healing and growth.

(Note: As a counseling intern, my work is fully supported by regular clinical supervision).

Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me!

My name is Shiloh Rivera, and I am a clinical mental health counseling intern at Tillmon Behavioral Health. My practice is grounded in somatic therapy, CBT, TF-CBT, MCT, and exploratory talk therapy, and I continuously refine my approach to deliver the most competent care for my clients.

I was born and raised in the Bronx. As a first-generation American, I started my academic career and earned my associate's degree in Animation & Illustration with CUNY’s education and guidance. I moved to the Western NY area and attended a SUNY school, where I earned a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Graphic Design & MultiMedia Arts.

I was part of the first graduating class to participate in a commencement ceremony since the COVID-19 pandemic. I will be continuing my education with SUNY in pursuit of a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

During my undergrad in Western New York, I launched my career in non-profit community outreach and case management as a Bilingual Case Manager and Latino Outreach Specialist for a Senior Day program. I later expanded my impact at an FQHC as a Care Coordinator, Spanish Medical Interpreter, and Medical Scribe in both Family Medicine and Psychiatry. Altogether, I bring over 7 years of experience advocating for and serving diverse communities.

Health is a crucial factor in our longevity. I prioritize self-care by taking small steps like ensuring I have nutritious meals, indulging in a much-needed at-home manicure, or treating myself to a delicious meal with my husband as a reward for my efforts.

(Note: As a counseling intern, my work is fully supported by regular clinical supervision).
